Language

The official languages of Cameroon are English and French. However, more than 240 tribes live in the country, each with its own distinct language


Religion and History

    • 55.5% Roman Catholic

    • 38% Protestant

    • 6.5 others including Jehovah Witness and Orthodox

While the country calls for freedom of religion in northern areas affected by Boko Haram, freedom of belief is restricted. Christians who convert from Islam are heavily persecuted.


Christianity came to Cameroon through the efforts of missionaries from various denominations including the Baptists in the early 19th century, Alfred Saker who translated the Bible into Douala, and catholic priests in the late 19th century.

  • Traditional gender roles, at home men eat first, then women, then children
