Treatment and Perception of Christians:Christians in China face significant challenges due to stringent government regulations and increasing repression. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) seeks to maintain tight control over religious practices, often targeting unregistered or house churches, which operate independently from the state-sanctioned Three-Self Patriotic Movement and the Catholic Patriotic Association.

In 2021 and 2022, multiple incidents highlighted the government's crackdown on Christian leaders and communities. For example, Pastor Hao Zhiwei was sentenced to eight years in prison on fraud charges, a common accusation used to target house church leaders. Similarly, the detention of Catholic Bishop Joseph Zhang Weizhu and the arrest of Elder Zhang Chunlei illustrate the risks faced by religious leaders who do not conform to state regulations.

China has a long and complex religious history, with Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism playing significant roles in shaping Chinese culture and society. The introduction of Christianity dates back to the 7th century, but it has faced periods of both acceptance and persecution. The contemporary religious landscape is heavily influenced by the CCP's policies, which aim to align religious practices with socialist values and ensure loyalty to the state.

Legend of Nüwa

She is a goddess in Chinese folk religion, Chinese Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism.

She is said to have created creatures by making them out of clay. After making birds and other animals, she used her own image to create humans. In some renditions she used yellow clay to make nobles and mud to make lesser class. In other renditions, the ones she made by hand became nobles, but when her hands got tired she took a muddy rope and flung mud everywhere, making a lower class.

She is also said to have fixed the heavens after a war for which god would rule the heavens. The war had torn a hole in the sky and the earth was being flooded, so she talked to Ao, who granted her a wish. She used his legs as pillars to hold up the heavens and melted 5 colored stones to patch the heavens. She is now seen as mother of fertility.
