Listener Travelogues

I went to Colombia back in February this year. I was starting my trip in Cartagena. As a solo traveler, I always read reviews before booking accommodations to see if other women felt safe staying in the lodging I’m considering. I was instantly drawn to a particular guesthouse because of all the comments about how kind the owners were and I had a feeling they may be Christian. I made my reservation and experienced so much kindness from the beginning. The host arranged a pre-paid taxi for me so I didn’t have to take money out of the high-exchange rate ATM at the airport, gave me a walking tour of the area to help me learn my way around, and recommended places to eat. I felt an overwhelming sense of peace every time I went into the guesthouse. My first morning in Cartagena was a Sunday and the hosts were getting ready for church as I was eating breakfast. I told them that I was a Christian as well and throughout my stay, we talked about how much God has blessed us. It was so nice to spend my mornings in Cartagena around other believers and the host couple reminded me of what Jesus’ kindness looks like when lived out by his followers. I was truly sad to say goodbye to this lovely couple, but I’m so happy to know that we’re part of the same body of Christ. If you’re ever looking to visit Cartagena, Hostal Casa de las Americas is the place to stay! - Theresa
